We are looking for a Principal UX Designer to drive the definition and design for Alexa Information's multimodal experiences across devices, encompassing all new and existing Echo devices, Fire TV, Mobile, and Alexa Auto experiences. The successful candidate will have a passion for designing global consumer products at scale, strong interest in the field of Artificial Intelligence, deep empathy for the needs of customers in varying cultures globally, partnering with cross-functional and multi-national teams, and above all - the entrepreneurial grit to getting things done.


Key job responsibilities

· Design beautiful, useful, and desirable user interfaces and experiences in a team environment.

· Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, customer feedback, and usability findings.

· Use business requirements, user and market research to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and high-level requirements.

· Design the UI architecture, interface, and interaction flow of applications and experiences.

· Develop conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, click-throughs, and prototypes.

· Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications and design patterns.

· Develop and maintain documentation of customer behaviors, motivations, and daily habits.

· Work with project managers to plan projects for effective delivery while maintaining high standards for design.

· Drive user testing during multiple states of the design process.

· Be a passionate and effective advocate for design with non-design audiences.

· Write effectively to communicate design rationales and benefits to Amazon customers.

· Use analytics and data to drive design decision making to best serve our customers.


About the team

Alexa AI Information is responsible for answering all information-related questions for customers as well as building delightful customer experiences around them. We focus on a wide variety of consumer facing experiences that will be informative, helpful, intuitive, friendly, immersive and engaging.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· 8+ years experience designing interactive experiences

· A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience in user-centered design solutions and product design innovation

· Must illustrate solving for multi-platform UX challenges and demonstrate scalable, user-friendly design solutions.

· Experience designing reusable UX components or libraries

· Mastery of standard interactive design tools and process

· Experience planning and executing effective customer research, solo, or in partnership with a UX Researcher

· Demonstrated ability to influence and lead projects from concept to delivery and ongoing improvement

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Expertise in the design thinking process

· Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

· Experience with research and human-centered design with a portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience solving complex challenges with simple user-centered design solutions

· Experience with consumer brand experience design and an understanding of storytelling

· Ability to extract complex concepts and quickly turn around rigorous flows and mockups reflecting a range of options

· Experience in designing interactions for voice-led devices

· Experience in designing cross platform experiences

· Ability to drive and close on design requirements independently

· Experience working in design consulting where presentation to clients and executives are core proficiencies

· Proficiency in presenting design work to user experience teams, product and engineering teams, and executives for review and feedback

· Experience with the principles behind Behavior Design

· Knowledge with the fundamentals of cognitive psychology

· Working knowledge of the foundations of engineering principles and how design translates into code
