About the Whiteboard team

Microsoft Whiteboard is the visual collaboration workspace in Microsoft 365, designed for hybrid work. We introduced Microsoft Whiteboard with the goal of bringing people together for visual collaboration, working across a range of devices and ecosystems including Microsoft Teams. Over the past 18 months, as many people were working remotely, we learned customers needed virtual-first tools to creatively problem-solve with others. To help people thrive in a more flexible work environment, we have reimagined the Whiteboard experience to help our customers collaborate, wherever, and whenever.


About the role

The person in this role will be at the forefront of design activities, co-creating cohesive and compelling experiences that our customers will love. We're looking for a talented interaction designer that is interested in crafting the next generation of human-computer interaction.


More than anything, you are an interaction designer at heart that can craft delightful and intentional designs. Your designs are intelligent, whimsical and motivate people to interact with the software.

You can craft inspiring designs and prototype them using Protopie, Origami, Principal or Framer.


You think about the big picture, cross-device and cross-platform scenarios, and most importantly, the user from concept to execution. 

You have a strong grounding in a user centered design process. You leverage research insights to identify important user needs, explore and iterate to define possible solutions to those problems and validate your designs with users. 


You can collaborate effectively well with team members across multiple disciplines. 


You have a pixel-perfect attention to detail in your process and the implementation of your work in the finished product. Your dedication to craftsmanship in product is of the highest order. 


You’re a clear and articulated communicator. You’re deliberate about your design approach, and you rely on feedback from the team and users to iterate. You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You’re ready to take ownership of the design of a complex, growing product. You show great empathy for your audience. 


As the Product Designer 2 for Whiteboard, you will:

  • Work with your product and design group to define the product roadmap. 
  • Design and prototype inspiring interaction design concepts.
  • Work with your peers to identify tasks and user scenarios.
  • Produce information architecture, task-flow diagrams, storyboards, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.
  • Create design specifications.
  • Participate in the design, observation, and analysis of user research. 
  • Work closely with engineers to ensure the design is implemented effectively and iterate in code to refine the design and respond to user feedback.

Essential skills, experience, and qualifications required to apply

  • A current online portfolio which includes examples of interaction designs, prototypes, and motion designs using Protopie, Origami, Principal or Framer
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience creating interaction design for software
  • Experience with Figma and one or more of the following prototyping tools: Protopie, Origami, Principal or Framer
  • A degree in Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, Product Design or related field (e.g., using design thinking to solve problems) 

Additional qualifications, not required to apply

  • Experience delivering information architecture and task-flow diagrams, storyboards, wireframes.
