Product Designer - Consumer Configuration, App Experiences

Remote (Santa Barbara, CA) +4

At Sonos we want to create the ultimate listening experience for our customers and know that it starts by listening to each other. As part of the Sonos team, you’ll collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to realize our vision while fostering a community where everyone feels included and empowered to do the best work of their lives.

This role can be done from home

Building the world’s leading sound experience starts with the experience we provide for our people. That’s why we’ve been distributed from the start: initially between offices in Boston & Santa Barbara, and now with additional offices in Seattle, San Francisco & Paris. This role can be done from anywhere in the United States- any of our offices, or remotely from home. It’s about impact, not location.

Sonos is focused on helping people listen better to live better.  We’re looking for a talented product designer to build new experiences that help our listeners set up and configure Sonos products and services as they create whole-house systems.

You’ll do so on a range of Sonos app experience including iOS, Android, Mac and PC. You’ll be deeply involved in making setup, configuration and the daily experience for every Sonos listener easier, more delightful, and rich. You’ll use your full range of skills from product design, interaction design, and visual design, and you’ll do this with a growing team of talented designers and researchers.

What You’ll Do

  • Work collaboratively with designers, product managers, and developers to define and build new setup and configuration experiences in our app, and improve existing ones.
  • Represent the user in everything we build. Participate in primary and secondary research to understand the context of your work, and use this context as the foundation for our design work.
  • Ideate, create, and refine workflows and patterns in the app experience to make our products delightful to use.
  • Create high-fidelity visual design specifications and technical documentation using Figma and Confluence.
  • Understand, leverage, and extend our visual design system to deliver a consistent and rich app experience.
  • Create prototypes to support user research and inform the development of Sonos experiences.
  • Create compelling presentations and documentation that clearly and concisely communicate design work and your rationale behind proposals.

What You’ll Need

  • You’ve shipped product. You have 3+ years of experience delivering apps and software from brief to delivery within a team environment.
  • You’re experienced designing digital products and systems, not just websites. You have experience designing experiences for mobile, tablet, and desktop.
  • You are adept at working with logic-driven user-flows and have an understanding of connected technology ecosystems.
  • You’ve worked with design systems before to create consistently high quality experiences.
  • You’re effective throughout the entire product development process, from problem definition through to detailed UI and visual design.
  • You’re dedicated to craft, and have created high-fidelity design using Figma, Sketch, etc.
  • You’ve created detailed interactive prototypes using Figma, Framer, Invision, Flinto, Principle, etc.
  • You’re an excellent communicator of design work and your rationale behind proposals. You can communicate complex ideas to the team and stakeholders. You’ve got experience using Jira and Confluence.
  • You’re focused on the listener. You’re curious. You enjoy supporting stakeholder interviews and user research, and integrating findings into final designs.
  • You own the success or failure of design work and have found solutions to improve shipped work.

  • You’ve worked on experiences or systems that combine hardware and software.
  • You understand and have delivered on deadlines related to hardware releases.
  • You are a capable motion designer
  • You have experience working with distributed teams and understand the sensibilities and responsibility that come with it.
