About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Interaction Designer to work on the Roku Mobile app – an app used by millions to control their Roku devices as well as discover and stream content.

What You’ll Do in This Role

  • Lead the design for major features that enhance how our mobile app users can interact with their Roku devices
  • Provide concept design for future mobile features by combining deep research insights with your creative process
  • Present your designs and rationale to Directors and Executives in design reviews
  • Contribute new components and operational efficiencies to our mobile design system
  • Work closely with Product Managers to identify the problems and business goals that your designs will address
  • Utilize user journeys to help guide and frame your design approaches
  • Partner with strong User Researchers to determine and execute the ideal research methodology to evaluate your designs
  • Own your designs and communicate effectively, articulating your design decisions to colleagues from diverse disciplines
  • Give and receive feedback in regular design critiques with your peers


What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Experience designing Mobile Apps of medium to high complexity
  • A strong toolkit of design methods and the experience to know when to apply them
  • Understanding of the Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design Guidelines
  • Proficiency with design tools like Figma, Sketch or Framer to create user interfaces
  • Hands-on experience working with User Researchers (or conducting User Research yourself) and utilizing the results of that research to shape your designs
  • Endless empathy for the user
  • 2+ years experience in interaction design


During Your First Year in This Role, You’ll

  • Develop a rich understanding of the streaming & entertainment space both from a user, business, and technology perspective
  • Lead ideation sessions for large mobile features to quickly explore the solution space and help with alignment
  • Apply your craft skills to deliver final design solutions including flows, prototypes, and detailed behavior specs
  • Storyboard & prototype future mobile visions based on research insights and product strategy
  • Take charge of mobile design initiatives under the mentorship of some of our most experienced Managers and Directors
  • Quickly create mockups and prototypes for both internal evaluation and user testing
  • Partner with our stellar User Researchers and help mold the research plans to give us the most salient information for the next round of design decisions
  • Give well thought-out presentations in formal design reviews, walking your audience through your design process and how you made the decisions you made
  • Participate in the deeply synergistic team of UXers at Roku – you’ll share knowledge, exchange ideas, and have one of the best sounding boards in the tech industry

About Our Hiring Process for this Role

We know your time is valuable, so we love being transparent about our hiring processes.

For this Interaction Designer role, you’ll start with a call with your dedicated Roku recruiter. Next, you’ll meet with the Hiring Manager (Mobile UX Manager) to learn more about the role and walk them through a portfolio project (~30 minutes). For the walkthrough, you’ll discuss your process & solutions as well as challenges and lessons learned. Then you’ll have 3 or 4 one-on-one interviews with various Roku folks, and that’s it! Throughout the process, your Roku recruiter will be there for you every step of the way.
